Agen

French town, capital of the département of Lot-et-Garonne, 120 km/75 mi southeast of Bordeaux, on the River Garonne; population (1999) 30,200. It has chemical industries, and a long tradition of making preserved fruit, especially prunes.

Agen is the seat of a bishop.
