Town in Sicily, known for Greek temples; population (2001) 54,600.

Agrigento

Province of Italy in southwest Sicily; capital Agrigento; area 3,042 sq km/1,175 sq mi; population (2000 est) 469,300. The ancient Greeks called it Akrangas, the Romans Agrigentum, and its name until 1927 was Girgenti.
