Agrippina, the Younger

    0.35 sec.

Agrippina, the Younger (AD 15-59)

Influential member of a Roman imperial family, sister of Caligula, mother of Nero, and wife of her uncle Claudius, all Roman emperors. She was suspected of poisoning Claudius, having previously persuaded him to adopt Nero as his successor over his own son, Britannicus (AD 50). She sought to rule through Nero but after five years of personal power she was poisoned on his orders.

The present-day city of Cologne (Colonia Agrippina) was named after her.
