Aguascalientes| State of central Mexico; area 5,589 sq km/ 2,158 sq mi; population (2000 est) 943,500. Its capital is Aguascalientes. Most of the state lies on a plateau, between 900 m/2,955 ft and 3,050 m/10,000 ft above sea level, and there are many thermal springs. With the help of irrigation, it is a productive agricultural area, producing cereals, grapes (used in wine-making), and cattle. Minerals worked include zinc, silver, copper, lead, and gold. |
