ahimsa

In Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, the doctrine of respect for all life (including the lowest forms and even the elements themselves) and consequently an extreme form of nonviolence. It arises in part from the concept of karma, which holds that a person's actions (and thus any injury caused to any form of life) determine his or her experience and condition in this and future lives.
