Ahna, Pauline de (1863-1950)

German soprano. She studied at Munich and made her debut at Weimar in 1890, as Pamina; later roles there included Eva, Elsa, and Donna Elvira. She sang at Karlsruhe 1890-91 as Agathe, Leonore, and Donna Anna. In 1894 she created Freihild in Strauss's Guntram; she married the composer the same year. He dedicated several sets of songs to her, including four Lieder and Op. 27, and portrayed her in Ein Heldenleben, the Symphonia domestica and Intermezzo. She sang Elisabeth at Bayreuth in 1891.
