Ainsley, John Mark

Ainsley, John Mark (1963– )

English tenor. He studied at Oxford and sang with such early music ensembles as the Taverner Consort and the London Baroque. He appeared in concerts of Handel, Mozart, and Stravinsky under Gardiner, Menuhin, and Tate, and made his US debut in JS Bach's B minor Mass (at New York, with Hogwood). His opera debut was in Alessandro Scarlatti's Gli equivici nel sembianti, at Innsbruck, and he made his debut with the English National Opera Ensemble in 1989, in Monteverdi's Ulisse. His Mozart roles include Ferrando (with the Glynebourne Touring Opera in 1991), Idamante (with the Welsh National Opera in 1991) and Don Ottavio (at Glyndebourne in 1994).
