Airdrie

Industrial town in North Lanarkshire unitary authority, Scotland, approximately 8 km/5 mi north of the River Clyde, and 18 km/11 mi east of Glasgow; population (2001) 36,300. Originally a centre for cotton weaving, its industries are now diverse, ranging from paper manufacture to the production of pharmaceuticals.
