Ayesha (611–678)

Third and favourite wife of the prophet Muhammad, who married her when she was nine. Her father, Abu Bakr, became caliph on Muhammad's death in 632. She bitterly opposed the later succession to the caliphate of Ali, who had once accused her of infidelity.
