Ajmone-Marsan, Guido (1947– )

Italian-born US conductor. He studied at the Eastman School, Rochester, and in Salzburg, Venice, and Rome. He won the Solti Competition in 1973 and was principal conductor of the Orchestra of Illinois, Chicago, 1982–87, and musical director of Essen Opera 1986–90. Other engagements have been at the New York Metropolitan Opera House, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, the New York City Opera (with Carmen, in 1992), and with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
