Akhetaton

Capital of ancient Egypt established by the monotheistic pharaoh Akhenaton as the centre for his cult of the Aton, the Sun's disc; it is the modern Tell el Amarna 300 km/190 mi south of Cairo. Akhenaton's palace had formal enclosed gardens. After his death it was abandoned, and the Amarna tablets, found in the ruins, were probably discarded by his officials.
