Akranes

Town on Faxa Bay, Iceland, in the county of Vesturland, north of Reykjavik; population (2006 est) 6,000. It is a trading and fishing centre with a cement factory using offshore shell deposits for lime.

The former Barnsley, Notts County and Stoke boss, who is in charge of Akranes in his homeland, had been approach by the Tynecastle outfit about the vacancy.
The Iceland international could not afford a place of his own when he left his home town Sigluf-jordur to join IA Akranes but a club contact agreed to let him stay in their garage.
