Jubail

City in Saudi Arabia, on the Gulf coast, 80 km/50 mi north of Dhahran; population (1993) 78,800. Jubail (like Yanbu on the Red Sea coast) has, since the 1970s, been transformed at the instigation of a Saudi royal commission from a village into a sophisticated deepwater port and major industrial complex.
