Al Hasa

Large series of oases in eastern Saudi Arabia, along the borders with Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The main town is Hofuf. Water is plentiful here, and the main products are rice, dates, cotton, citrus fruits, and indigo. Livestock is important, including sheep, goats, camels, and poultry. Petroleum production is the main industry.

Al Hasa was a Karmathian state until the 11th century, and was more or less independent until the 18th century; in 1914 Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud took it from the Turks.
