Alagna, Roberto (1963– )

French tenor of Sicilian parentage. He studied in France and Italy, and sang Alfredo with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera at Glyndebourne in 1988. He sang Rodolfo at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1990, returning 1994–95 as Gounod's Roméo, and as Don Carlos. He appeared at Monte Carlo in 1992 as Roberto Devereux. Other roles include Faust (Boito and Gounod), the Duke of Mantua (in Vienna in 1995), and Edgardo. He has also appeared at La Scala, and in Chicago and New York. He is one of the most promising lyric tenors of his generation.
