Alamance County

County in north-central North Carolina, USA, in the Piedmont; area 1,121 sq km/433 sq mi; population (1990) 108,200. Its administrative headquarters is Graham. The county is crossed by the Haw River. Its farms produce primarily tobacco and corn. Industry is focused in the textile centre of Burlington. The Alamance Battleground, 11 km/7 mi southwest of Burlington, is the site of the Battle of Alamance Creek (16 May 1771).
