Albanese, Licia (1913– )

US soprano of Italian origin. She studied in Milan and made her first stage appearance at the Teatro Lirico there in 1934, as Madam Butterfly, followed in the same year by an appearance at La Scala. From 1940 she was a member of the New York Metropolitan Opera House. She was chosen by Toscanini for his recorded broadcasts of La Bohème and La Traviata. Her other roles included Donna Anna, Manon, and Aida.
