Albemarle

Town and administrative headquarters of Stanly County, south-central North Carolina, USA; population (1990) 14,900. It is situated 60 km/37 mi east-northeast of Charlotte. An agricultural trade centre, it produces lumber, textiles, brick, and cottonseed oil, and processes poultry.
