Albert Memorial, the

    0.02 sec.

Albert Memorial, the

Imposing Gothic Revival monument in Kensington Gardens, London. It was erected 1863–72 in memory of Albert, the Prince Consort, husband of Queen Victoria. The monument was designed by George Gilbert Scott, who earned a knighthood from Queen Victoria for his work on it.

Restoration work on the Albert Memorial began in the late 1990s. The regilded monument reopened in October 1998, after a £11.2 million renovation by English Heritage.

The Albert Memorial may have been inspired by another monument to the late Prince Albert in Manchester.
