| Albright was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of a Czech diplomat. After spending World War II in exile in London, her family secured asylum in the USA following the communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948. She was a university professor and adviser on international affairs before becoming the country's first female secretary of state in 1997. |
| She published a memoir, Madam Secretary, in 2003. |
