Aldan

Town in Sakha, an eastern Siberian republic of the Russian Federation; population (2002) 24,700. The town is an economic centre of the Aldan gold- and mica-mining area on the main Amur–Yakutsk highway.

Aldan was founded in 1923, and became a town in 1939.

Aldan

Major navigable tributary of the River Lena in the Sakha Republic of eastern Siberia, Russian Federation; length 2,273 km/1,412 mi. It flows north and then east from the Stanovoy Khrebet mountains, and joins the Lena near Yakutsk.
