Aldborough

Village in North Yorkshire, England, 37 km/23 mi north of Leeds; population (2001) 1,279. It is situated on the River Ure, on the former site of the Roman town of Isurium. During the Roman occupation of Britain it was the home of the consuls and governors of York, and the remains of their villas can still be seen.

The ancient history of Aldborough is mentioned by the antiquary John Leland in his Itinerary.
