Alekhine, Alexander (1892-1946)

Russian-born naturalized French chess master, world champion 1927-35 and 1937-46. In 1909 he won the title of master at chess and thereafter dominated the chess world with many first prizes. He challenged the world champion José Raúl Capablanca 1927 and won the title.
