Alexander, Roberta (1949– )

US soprano. She studied in the Hague and appeared with Netherlands Opera in the posthumous premiere of Ullmann's Emperor of Atlantis (1975). She made her US operatic debut as Pamina at Houston in 1980, and has returned since 1983 to the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, as Zerlina, Bess, Jenůfa, and Mimi. She sang Mimi at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1984, and Jenůfa at Glyndebourne in 1989. Other roles include Handel's Cleopatra and Mozart's Electra, Vitellia, and Elvira.
