Market town in Lincolnshire, England, 40 km/25 mi northeast of Boston; population (2001) 4,300. Alford has a windmill that is still in working order.

Alford

Village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, near the River Don, 35 km/22 mi northwest of Aberdeen; population (2001) 1,900. The Covenanters (Scottish Presbyterians) were defeated at Alford in 1645 by the Scottish soldier and royalist James Montrose.
