Algoa Bay

Broad and shallow inlet in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. On the western side is one of South Africa's major ports, Port Elizabeth. The bay is one of South Africa's least developed sections of coast and is a popular location for wilderness tourism. The Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Diaz landed here after rounding the Cape in 1488. In 1820 it was the landing place of 5,000 British settlers.
