Alinsky, Saul (David) (1909–1972)| US social activist. Director of the Industrial Areas Foundation (1939–72), he organized Chicago slum dwellers to demand better housing and education, then trained others to be community organizers. After the 1964 race riots in Chicago, he brought his organizing skills to urban ghettos. In Rules for Radicals (1971), he articulated his principles of social activism. |
