Aliquippa

Town in Beaver County, southwest Pennsylvania, USA; population (1990) 13,400. It is situated 32 km/20 mi northwest of Pittsburgh. Founded in 1750 as a trading post on the Ohio River, it was later named in honour of ‘Queen’ Al, a local Seneca. Early industries included saw and grist milling. Aliquippa grew dramatically with expansion of the steel industry around Pittsburgh in the early 20th century, and is a centre of steel production. It merged with the adjacent borough of Woodlawn in 1928.

Born to Greek parents in Aliquippa, PA, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and joined the CIA in 1962.
Initial markets will include several communities in the East Bay area of Northern California; Westchester and Culver City in greater Los Angeles; and Aliquippa, Baden, Carnegie and McKeesrock in metropolitan Pittsburgh.
The poem "Flight" (Tekonwatonti 157), in two parts, records the voices of Aliquippa and of Molly.
