Alismataceae

Family of about 13 genera and 80 species of plants, usually marsh plants or floating-leaved aquatics. They are monocotyledons with distinct sepals and petals, both three in number. The carpels are separate, and often numerous.

The family is like Ranunculaceae in some ways, possibly indicating a common evolutionary origin of monocotyledons and dicotyledons.
