Allegan County

County in southwest Michigan, USA; area 2,155 sq km/832 sq mi; population (1990) 90,500. It is bounded to the west by Lake Michigan; the Rabbit and Kalamazoo rivers flow through the county. Its administrative headquarters is Allegan. The county has a number of lakeshore resorts and is the site of the large Allegan State Game Area. It is a fruit growing, dairying, and agricultural area producing grains and onions. There is some manufacturing at Allegan and Plainwell.
