Stroud

Town in Gloucestershire, southwest England, in the Cotswolds 13 km/8 mi southeast of Gloucester, on the River Frome; population (2001) 32,050. For many centuries broadcloth and scarlet-dyed cloth have been made in the area, and are still produced for military uniforms. There are also engineering works, woollen mills, sawmills, and factories making plastics and fibre board.
