Alhambra

The walls of the Alhambra palace, Granada, Spain. The Alhambra was built as the fortified palace of the Moorish kings. It was partly demolished and rebuilt by Charles V in the 16th century, but still contains some fine medieval Islamic architecture.

Fortified palace in Granada, Spain, built by Moorish kings, mainly between 1248 and 1354. It stands on a rocky hill and is a fine example of Moorish architecture.

Alhambra

Auditorium in central London 1854–1936, mainly used for music hall.

The Alhambra opened in Leicester Square in 1854, but was burned down and rebuilt in Moorish style in 1882. It was a highly successful music hall at the end of the nineteenth century, and later staged revue and ballet. In 1936 it was demolished and the Odeon cinema was built on the site.

Alhambra

Town in Los Angeles County, southwest California, USA; population (1990) 82,100. It is located 8 km/5 mi northeast of Los Angeles, of which it is an industrial and residential suburb. Founded in 1881, it has diverse industries, including the manufacture of aircraft and electronic components. It has attracted many Chinese immigrants in recent decades, and has a lively Chinese commercial community.
