Kennedy's Alliance for Progress, where I worked, was
symbolic of the optimism of the time. The
1965 invasion of the Dominican Republic effectively ended the commitment
of the Alliance for Progress to hemispheric democracy. In these

they have been calling for new funding transfers for Latin America
similar to the post-World War II Marshall Plan for Europe and the
Kennedy-Johnson Alliance for Progress foreign aid program for Latin
America. |
