Alloway

Village in South Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, on the River Doon, now a suburb of Ayr, lying 6 km/4 mi south of its centre. Alloway is the birthplace of Robert Burns, and is the site of several tourist attractions associated with the Scottish poet.

Local sites include Burns Cottage, a museum converted from his family home; the kirk, scene of the witches' dance in Tam o' Shanter; the Auld Brig o' Doon over which Tam o' Shanter escaped; and the Burns Monument and gardens.
