Almería

Spanish city, chief town of a province of the same name on the Mediterranean; population (2001) 166,300. The province is famous for its white grapes, and in the Sierra Nevada are rich mineral deposits.

Almería

Province of southern Spain in eastern Andalusia autonomous community, bordered on the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; area 8,777 sq km/3,388 sq mi; population (1995 est) 493,100. Products include cereals, fruit, and wine, and the region has small deposits of copper, iron, silver, lead, and mercury. The modern province was formerly part of the kingdom of Granada. The capital is Almería.
