Alpaerts, Flor (1876–1954)

Belgian conductor and composer. He studied with Benoit and Blockx at the Antwerp Conservatory, became a professor there in 1903, and in 1934–41 was its director. In 1919 he also became conductor of the Antwerp Zoo Orchestra and in 1922–23 he directed the Royal Flemish Opera.

Works

opera Shylock (after Shakespeare); incidental music for plays; church music, Spring symphony, symphonic poem Psyche and other orchestral works; violin concerto; chamber music; piano works; songs.
