helix

In mathematics, a three-dimensional curve resembling a spring, corkscrew, or screw thread. It is generated by a line that encircles a cylinder or cone at a constant angle.

Helix

Genus of snails. H. hortensis is the common European snail, and H. pomatia, also found in Britain, is the Roman snail.

Classification

Helix is in subclass Pulmonata, class Gastropoda, phylum Mollusca.

In one case, that of a glucocorticoid receptor protein, they found a specific spiral structure -- an alpha-helix -- that appears to spur transcription.
Whereas a single alpha-helix consists of an elegant spiral of 15 to 20 amino acids, the beta sheet requires 60 to 70 amino acids.
Previous research established that an alpha-helix protein is an electric dipole.
