laburnum

Any of a group of flowering trees or shrubs belonging to the pea family; the seeds develop in pealike pods but are poisonous. L. anagyroides, native to the mountainous parts of central Europe, is often grown as an ornamental tree. The flowers, in long drooping clusters, are bright yellow and appear in early spring; some varieties have purple or reddish flowers. (Genus Laburnum, family Leguminosae.)
