AltamiraCave decorated with Palaeolithic wall paintings, the first such to be discovered, in 1879. The paintings are realistic depictions of bison, deer, and horses in polychrome (several colours). The cave is near the village of Santillana del Mar in Santander province, northern Spain; other well-known Palaeolithic cave paintings are in Lascaux, southwestern France.
