Altamura

Town in Apulia region, southeast Italy, on the Murge plateau, 45 km/28 mi southwest of Bari; population (1990 est) 56,600. Products include wool, fruit, olives, and wine. It has a 13th-century Romanesque cathedral, and there are tumuli nearby.
