Altenheim, Battle of

Battle fought 1 August 1675, during the Dutch struggles with the French, when the Austrian army under Raimendo Montecuccoli forced the French army across the Rhine into Alsace.

On 27 July at Sasbach the French, led by Henri de Turenne, had trapped the Austrians, but Turenne was killed and the French retreated. At Altenheim, Montecuccoli defeated the French.
