alternative investment market

UK securities market for companies that cannot, or do not wish to, obtain a full listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). Companies listed on AIM tend to be smaller than those listed on LSE, and may present a higher risk in terms of investment. There is less liquidity in AIM than in LSE, and, as a result, AIM shares tend to be more volatile. AIM replaced its forerunner, the Unlisted Securities Market (USM), in 1995.
