Althorp

Village in Northamptonshire, England, 11km/7m north of Northampton, site of the Althorp Park estate owned by the Spencer family since 1508; population (2001) 110. Diana, Princess of Wales, whose family home this was, is buried on an island in the park.

Earl Spencer, Diana's brother, opened a museum to her memory at Althorp in 1998.

It started out as a listing of sites from which to buy Diana merchandise and royal family memorabilia, but it eventually expanded to include informative sites in the "Free Stuff" section, pictures and text of an exhibit of Diana memorabilia that I put up as a display in our library in the summer of 1999, and pictures of my trip to Althorp, Princess Diana's ancestral home, in the summer of 2000.
Addressing a luncheon of the Association of American Correspondents in London, Spencer declined to specify how much time he spends with his nephews, but said William, 17, and Harry, 14, have open invitations to visit the Spencer estate at Althorp.
