Altmeyer, Jeannine (1948- )

US soprano of German-Italian parentage. She studied with Lotte Lehmann and in Salzburg. She appeared at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1971, at Chicago in 1972, and in Salzburg and Zurich from 1973. She sang Sieglinde at Bayreuth in 1979, and Brünnhilde in the first compact disc recording of The Ring (conducted by Janowski). She sang Isolde at Bayreuth in 1986, and Leonore at La Scala. She is noted for her highly spirited interpretations.
