Alva

Town and former burgh in Clackmannanshire, Scotland, at the foot of the Ochil Hills, 11 km/7 mi east of Stirling; population (2001) 5,200. The valleys of Alva Glen and Silver Glen, named after 18th-century silver mines, lie nearby. Once a major wool-manufacturing centre, the town's principal industries now include textile production, printing, and canning.

Town and administrative headquarters of Woods County, northwest Oklahoma, USA; population (2000) 5,300. It is situated 80 km/50 mi northwest of Enid and 21 km/13 mi south of the Kansas border. It is a commercial hub for a wheat farming and cattle ranching region, and produces such items as flour, feed, and dairy goods. It is home to Northwestern Oklahoma State University (1897).
