Amagasaki

Port in Hyogo prefecture, on the northwest outskirts of Osaka, Honshu island, Japan; population (1994) 487,000. It is situated on Osaka Bay with river communication to Kyoto. Amagasaki is a major centre for the production of steel, locomotives, caustic soda, electronic equipment, and beer. The remains of Tano, a settlement of the Yayoi period (300 BC to AD 300) can be found in the city.
