Amberg

City in Bavaria, Germany, 153 km/95 mi north of Munich; population (1993) 43,700. Iron has been worked in the city since the 14th century. Other industries include extraction of brown coal (lignite) and brewing. Amberg has medieval walls, a castle, and several old churches, including the 15th-century Gothic St Martinskirche.
