Ambrosio, Vittorio

    0.09 sec.

Ambrosio, Vittorio (1897–1958)

Italian general, initially loyal to Mussolini but later involved in his overthrow.

In World War II, Ambrosio commanded the 2nd Italian Army in Yugoslavia 1941, became Chief of Staff of the Italian Army January 1942, and Chief of the Italian General Staff February 1943. After the fall of Mussolini he made plain his opposition to the German domination of Italy following the Italian armistice with the Allies September 1943, and so was demoted to inspector general of the army.
