AMD

US company that produces central processing units (CPUs, the main component of a computer). They are the main competitor to Intel in the computer production market place. They produce the Athlon and Duron series of microprocessors, the latest of which, the 2 GHz Quad core Opteron, was launched in 2007.

In 2007 AMD had about a 10% share of the CPU market. AMD Flash Memory devices are also used widely in mobile phones and laptop computers.
