Amenia

Town in Dutchess County, southeast New York, USA; population (1990) 5,200. It is situated 76 km/47 mi northeast of Poughkeepsie and is adjacent to Sharon, Connecticut, which lies to its west. Industries include some light manufacturing, dairying, and truck farming.

A late-18th-century furnace and foundry in Amenia used local ore to manufacture iron and steel products for American forces in the Revolution.
